Kings Harbor's full-time Medical Director is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, and has been named one of the Best Doctors in Geriatric Medicine by New York Magazine. He oversees a range of staff including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical specialists. Medical students from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Geriatric Fellows from Montefiore Medical Center receive part of their training at Kings Harbor. A primary care physician is assigned to each resident.
The Nursing Staff at Kings Harbor is selected for their skill, training and compassion. Under the leadership of the Director of Nursing Services, more than 400 nursing employees staff our sixteen nursing units.
The Nurse Manager on each unit has 24-hour responsibility over all aspects of resident care. Registered nurses and licensed practical nurses are on duty 24 hours a day to provide supervision, care, treatment and medication. Close relationships are formed between residents and our Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who provide personal care assistance, and encourage independence.
Social, creative and intellectual stimulation are key to a resident's emotional and physical well-being. Therapeutic Recreation programs – exercise and sensory programs, arts and crafts, gardening, games, music, tai chi, discussion, etc., are designed for each resident's individual ability, providing an opportunity for self-expression and encouraging social interaction. A computer center, live entertainment, clubs, religious services and wellness programs are part of the recreation program that promotes an enriched, healthy leisure lifestyle.
The Therapeutic Recreation department also coordinates a variety of other services - beauty parlor, day trips, educational and cultural programming, pet visits, ipad/internet/skype accessibility amongst others.
The Recreation Department supervises the Resident Council where residents have an opportunity to voice their opinions and make recommendations regarding their day-to-day living at Kings Harbor.
Kings Harbor Multicare Center offers one of the most comprehensive Rehabilitation facilities (both inpatient and outpatient) available in the NY Metropolitan area. All rehabilitation services delivered are specially designed to meet the particular needs of our residents.

The Department of Social Work is staffed by experienced professional social workers. Each unit has an assigned social worker and a social work supervisor to ensure that all of our residents' psychosocial needs are met.
For short-term rehabilitation patients, our social workers will meet with the resident and their family upon admission to begin discussing the services that will be required for a safe discharge. Prior to discharge a plan of care is put in place to provide for a smooth transition back to the community.
Our long term residents and their family members receive ongoing social work services throughout their stay. Kings Harbor social workers also provide referrals to Palliative and End-of-Life Hospice Care when needed.
A social worker is available six days a week with evening hour appointments upon request. Special translation services are available, facilitating communication and enhancing a sense of comfort and security. The Family Council provides additional support to the family members of our residents.
The Food & Nutrition Department plans, prepares and delivers nutritious and appetizing meals incorporating seasonal and cultural diversity. Menus are individualized according to the resident's preferences and within their dietary requirements. Registered dietitians are responsible for evaluating resident nutritional requirements and for counseling residents on all aspects of adequate nutrition principles.
